Shut Out by Kody Keplinger Book Trailer & Giveaway

Shut Out by Kody Keplinger

Most high school sports teams have rivalries with other schools. At Hamilton High, it's a civil war: the football team versus the soccer team. And for her part, Lissa is sick of it. Her quarterback boyfriend, Randy, is always ditching her to go pick a fight with the soccer team or to prank their locker room. And on three separate occasions Randy's car has been egged while he and Lissa were inside, making out. She is done competing with a bunch of sweaty boys for her own boyfriend's attention.

Lissa decides to end the rivalry once and for all: she and the other players' girlfriends go on a hookup strike. The boys won't get any action from them until the football and soccer teams make peace. What they don't count on is a new sort of rivalry: an impossible girls-against-boys showdown that hinges on who will cave to their libidos first. And Lissa never sees her own sexual tension with the leader of the boys, Cash Sterling, coming.

Inspired by Aristophanes' play Lysistrata, critically acclaimed author of The Duff (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) Kody Keplinger adds her own trademark humor in this fresh take on modern teenage romance, rivalry and sexuality.

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini

Josephine Angelini is on the top of my "New Authors to Watch" list!! Her story telling abilities are top notch excellent. Her characters have so many layers as does the story. You realize that although her main characters are the focus, the other characters have their own intriguing stories and hidden pasts as well. Some YA authors seem to feel the need to lay out all the facts, hidden meanings, and secrets all at once so you don't have to think very much. Josephine doesn't do that, and a big thanks to her for it!! Several times I would reread a line or flip back a few pages and go "Ohhhh!! Sneaky!"

On to the story itself. Helen and Lucas are teenagers, but you feel how ancient their story really is. And that's what they find themselves having to fight against it every step of the way. They come against The Fates themselves and everyone else who seems to have it out for them. I love how strong of a woman Helen is and how she doesn't play the victim constantly. The Fates have handed her a bad hand but she's learned to make the best of it, kicking butt the whole time! She knows she's strong, smart, and beautiful but she also knows shinning the light on that will draw attention to herself which literally makes her sick. Enter Lucas! He and his family just moved to town with unknown reasons. Of course drawing everyone's attention in the small town of Nantucket not only because they are new but also because they are all so extraordinarily beautiful and brilliant. Their athletic abilities certainly don't hurt either. Sounds a lot like Helen, hmmmm? Needless to say Helen and Lucas's relationship starts out pretty rocky as that they hate each other with a passion. You'll have to read the book yourself to find out what happens. But don't worry, I'm sure you'll finish it in one sitting like I did!! Thanks for the story Josephine, can't wait for Starcrossed #2!!

Goddess Test by Aimee Carter

Wow! "Goddess Test" by Aimee Carter is just one of those novels you just can't bear to put down. At first you think this is a sad story about a girl named Kate whose loosing her mother to cancer. She's spent many years caring for her and watching her die. Very soon after Kate moves her mother back to her hometown to die you find out there is SO much more. I love Greek mythology and Kate is fixing to be surrounded by it and forever changed by it. Twists and turns abound, this is most definitely a page turner. Get ready for an addictive read! I simply can not wait for "Goddess Interrupted", the second book, to be released!

Angel Burn by L.A. Weatherly

Angel Burn was amazing! Willow has lived for 16 years knowing she is different from other teenagers, but not realizing just how different. She's spent her whole life taking care of her mother because her father, whom she's never met, left her a broken shell. Willow is psychic and really great at fixing cars. After a fateful psychic reading Willow's life is changing drastically. All of a sudden "they" send an assassin to kill her, but she doesn't know why and he can't seem to figure her out just yet. This book is full of complex characters with an intriguing story. I was so obsessed with it! I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!!

Big Bouffant by Kate Hosford

What a cute book about a trend setting little girl! Annabelle just is not content with the same Ponytails and braids she sees all the other girls wearing day after day. So she takes fashion in her own hands and starts a revolution. The only problem with looking so awesome is that soon everyone else wants to look the same way. Which just won't due for Miss Annabelle. My niece and I absolutely LOVED this story!

I am Tama, Lucky Cat by Wendy Henrichs

Such a delightful story. My five year old son absolutely loves legends. This is the story of Tamma, Lucky Cat. It tells of the legendary Japanese Bobtail with the rare black and orange colorings. Tama, Lucky Cat finds shelter with a kindly and selfless Monk who takes him in and shares what little he has. They develop a very sweet friendship giving to one another all they have. Then one stormy night Tama, Lucky Cat proves how lucky he is by saving a Samurai from tragedy. The Samurai repays the act by making the temple his family's place of honor. Therefore bringing good fortune to everyone! Such a grand story of selfless giving and how it is repaid. Thank you Wendy Henrichs for this telling of I am Tama, Lucky Cat.
